A MacBook Notch App Posts to X

Andy built Sally to capture and schedule posts without opening X, where a quick publishing task can easily turn into an extended browsing session.

Developed from a conversation between Pete Winn and Andy David

From Episode 75: The Human Bottleneck

Sally sits beneath the notch on Andy’s MacBook. Hovering over that area opens a compact field where he can write a post, send it immediately or schedule it for later. The idea came after he postponed a post to protect his concentration, then later forgot what he wanted to say. Sally gives him a way to publish a thought while it’s fresh without leaving his work and getting distracted by X.

The first version used Bird as a bridge to X, but that route managed only about two posts before it was blocked as bot activity. Andy replaced it with his own X login running through an invisible browser. The browser handles publishing and scheduling on his behalf, while Sally remains the only interface he sees.

The aim is to separate publishing from browsing. Andy still wants spend time on X when he chooses, but he doesn’t want every act of publishing to expose him to the feed, debates and notifications. He considered adding features such as Pomodoro timers, then decided the utility already served its purpose. Sally stays deliberately narrow, offering one small exit from focused work and a quick return to it.
