AI Photo Editing Inside Familiar Workflows

Connecting AI to an existing photo editor could reduce repetitive work while preserving the controls a professional already knows how to use.

Developed from a conversation between Pete Winn and Andy David

From Episode 77: AI Beyond Chat

Andy described a friend at an interior design studio who spends about five hours each week editing photos in Lightroom. Rather than building a separate application, he proposed a plugin that would let her use Claude to control Lightcraft, an open-source alternative to Lightroom, through a tool she already uses.

The plugin could learn her camera settings and editing preferences, save them and have Claude apply edits while she watches. Lightcraft’s existing sliders would remain available for manual adjustments, so she could review the results and make changes herself whenever needed.

Andy estimated that this approach might reduce five hours of weekly editing to about twenty minutes, though this was a proposed outcome rather than a measured result. The photo editing would still need to be done, but much of the manual work could be handled by Claude. She could continue working through a familiar interface, with the option to step in and refine the images herself.
